Academic Year Program

Success Coaching & Saturday Success Meetings

Throughout the Academic year, UBMS students and staff maintain contact to ensure students are on track for success in their classes.  The UBMS staff monitor student performance, make course recommendations, and arrange tutoring and/or academic coaching as needed.

UBMS holds monthly meetings (often in a Frederick County Public 图书馆) to help students work on study skills and other organizational and academic life skills to help students succeed. 

College Visits and Field Trips

The UBMS offers multiple college visits and trips during the academic year.  College visits allow students to see a variety of college campuses and to learn about different programs offered at these schools.  There are additional opportunities to join in group 实地考察旅行 to STEM events and/or other educational or cultural events.

In-School Visits

UBMS staff visit schools to meet with students to discuss progress and work on study and academic skills.

The UBMS will help arrange tutoring for students needing services.  

Senior Year Assistance

The UBMS staff works closely with seniors as they navigate the college application process.  Assistance is provided in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and college and scholarship applications and understanding award packages from prospective colleges.  Our goal is to help seniors and parents make informed decisions about college enrollment.   

Academic Year 需求

To remain in good standing and be eligible to return for subsequent summer programs and join in academic year 实地考察旅行, UBMS students must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete a Success Coach meeting with a UBMS staff member each semester
  • Complete Quarterly Progress Surveys
  • 提交 Quarterly Grades
  • Join in as many UBMS program functions as your schedule permits
  • Complete at least one Math and one Science Course each year 
  • Maintain above a 2.5 GPA each marking period- Students must keep at least a 2.5 GPA with no D or F grades.  Coaching is provided when students are not on track to meet these requirements.
